Day 5

P1040013

This is my Barred Rock rooster.  We raised him and several other chickens from wee little chicks.  He, one other rooster and five hens reside in the ‘Chicken Fortress’ out back behind the house.  Ever since it’s gotten cold, egg production has gone down to a few per week as it takes the energy used in production to help keep the chicken warm.  When the weather is nice we can get up to two dozen or so a week.  I really like having the chickens there.  We feed cracked corn and chicken scratch along with fruit and veggie scraps.  Their favorites are berries and apples.

--Until next time.
