Day 15

When you get to the ‘Waffle House’ part, it’d be a lot funnier if you saw all the stinking Waffle Houses we saw driving down 75, Brad says they are every 1.5 miles.  I’m beginning to think he’s right.

So, this is a little video tour I took of our hotel room.  it’s a pretty sweet little setup.  And for the price, you can’t beat it.  Be sure to check out the facebook link in the sidebar.  There is going to be albums going up either tonight or tomorrow with our pictures so far.  There’s lots going on and lots to see.

Okay, so.. inevitably this was going to happen.  I was pretty swamped today aaaand left my camera at home.  Thus, no picture from today.  But, nonetheless, a picture I did take.  : )  I’ve been wanting to have a bonfire since about the day after the last one we had this fall!  This is a picture of the AWESOME fire pit that Brad designed and built for me.  Thanks Brad!

Day 9

Hello and welcome to a new segment I like to call “What’s for dinner Sunday.”  It’s chicken tonight.  I just grilled up the last of that Apple Cider marinated chicken.  I made a fresh romaine ceasar salad and put the chicken breast on top of it.  Delish!  A few people were wondering about my Apple Cider marinade.  To be honest, I stand at the spices, grab what looks good and go to the fridge and do the same then throw a combination of ingredients in the bag.  A popular one around here that I do during the summer is cajun seasoning, garlic, lime juice and pancake syrup.  Weird right? Yes, but also tasty!  Well I would have done that marinade but I was out of lime juice and couldn’t spot the syrup in the fridge..  So, instead I just used some apple cider I had left over, some whole black peppercorns, a teeeeny bit of smoked paprika and a pinch of salt.  It’s pretty fantastic.  I like marinades because they are so limitless.  Depending on the type of meat you begin with, the possibilities are endless.  Every time I marinade it’s a sort of experiment.  So far, so good.  Experiment in the kitchen!  It’s fun!

P1090034

Also, while I’ve got your attention..  I’d like to show you a second picture I took yesterday.  Brad edited it for me, as my editing skills are non-existent.  He somehow sucked all the color out of the picture except for the John Deere yellow and green.  : )  I approve.

Day 8

P1080032

Miss Wrigley in her Zebra coat that her grandma got her.  : )  The dogs had lots of fun playing outside in the snow today.

Day 7

One whole week!  Only 51 more to go.

P1070020

I left the house this morning at 5am so I could meet Brad at his work when he was getting out and so we could make a spontaneous trip to IKEA. <3   We had to go down to Brad’s parents house to shovel their driveway for them.  And IKEA is conveniently locate ~45 minutes beyond there.. so why not right?  It was a good trip down..

P1070021

But this is what a significant portion of our trek home looked like..!  We made it safely back and there had been little to no accumulation here.  We somehow managed to keep our IKEA trip under two hours.  Funny thing is.. on the way down The Lodge, the roads were barely wet and it was almost sunny.  Crazy how fast things can change.

--Until next time.

Day 6

Speaking of Chicken…

Day 6

No worries, it’s not the same chicken from yesterday’s picture.  Though it IS homegrown and most delicious.  Just cooking up some chicken tonight to use later on this week.  : )

--Until next time.

Day 5

P1040013

This is my Barred Rock rooster.  We raised him and several other chickens from wee little chicks.  He, one other rooster and five hens reside in the ‘Chicken Fortress’ out back behind the house.  Ever since it’s gotten cold, egg production has gone down to a few per week as it takes the energy used in production to help keep the chicken warm.  When the weather is nice we can get up to two dozen or so a week.  I really like having the chickens there.  We feed cracked corn and chicken scratch along with fruit and veggie scraps.  Their favorites are berries and apples.

--Until next time.

Day 1

Resolution: the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.  We all have them.  Some stick to it, others are quick to push aside an all too impossible resolution.  MY resolution is to have achievable resolutions.  Funny? Eh, maybe.. But here’s hoping.  My main generic resolution—similar to many others I’ve heard people talking about, is to eat healthier and be more active.  My achievable and interesting resolution has been inspired by a girl I attended high school with, Cari Polzin whom did a similar project in 2010.  I am planning to blog 365 days of pictures as seen through my eyes.  It does several things for me.  This challenge allows me to begin to blog more.  I have so much that I want to say but sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the process itself.  I plan to keep this simple.  Just a picture and a few sentences explaining it.  I get the chance to share pictures with my followers of things that go on in my everyday life, which is exciting.  I get to ease back into blogging.  It’s basically a win win situation.  A possible chance for the first time in my life to stick with a new years resolution.  : )  So, on to today’s picture.

P1011575

Like most, with the turn of a new year comes an attempt at healthier daily cooking. So, that being said, today's picture is a photo of what we had for dinner. Apple cider marinated chicken breast, baked eggplant slices and mashed potatoes.

Until next time,
